‘SummeR’ stands as a boat in many ways as a boat that was ahead of it’s time. With a deck house for great 270 degree visibility, a spade rudder to give the boat better control on tight maneuvers and a long shoal cruising keel with only 5ft of draft opening the cruising capabilities to closer shore destinations.
A rigged windscreen with stainless steel framing will keep the skipper dry in her elevated cockpit with seating long enough to sleep on and tall coamings for backrests. When the weather gets too wet, SummeR is equipped with autopilot control in the saloon forward. Staterooms and heads are on separate ends of the boat giving two couples privacy and comfort while cruising. And for additional company, the saloon is easily ready for the stow-aways.
The Perkins diesel engine at 85hp is a powerhouse! Situated in its own engine room/shop midship accessible from the cockpit or the interior with a bench and plenty of room to work and stow parts. She cruises at 8.5 knots and a cruising range of 1200 miles, so you can leave the jerry jugs at the dock.
SummeR was built by Jensen Marine in Costa Mesa, California. Designed by Bill Lapworth and Jack Jensen were seeking to design a yacht of able sailing characteristics and ability with the cruising comforts of a motorsailer. An attraction of the Cal 2-46 design is that neither Lapworth or Jensen tried to squeeze too much into the hull leaving plenty of room for stowage and working, which is exactly what a couple or family needs when venturing far from home.
A Cal 2-46 is rare to find on the market, owners rarely separate from them. Even Lapworth and Jensen chose the Cal 46 cruiser as their personal retirement yacht for bluewater cruising. Here in Seattle with transferable moorage, call or email us today.
