Seawind’s new flagship, the Seawind 1600, was designed by famed naval architects Reichel Pugh for spirited, yet refined bluewater cruising. It’s superbly equipped and finished and should be high on the list of those looking for a modern 50 ft+, high performance cruising cat.
The Seawind 1600’s 21m alloy mast features a 7/8 fractional rig with twin spreaders and shrouds that clear the decks for easy passage forward. The boom has wings for the lazy jacks and built-in preventer. Lines for the self tacking jib and big square top main’s 2:1 halyard and three reefing points are neatly led aft to a single Harken 53 electric winch. Two Harken 50.2ST winches on each side aft beam manage the jib furler and spinnaker.
The decks of the Seawind 1600 are clean and easy to walk, with the dagger boards kept below deck and each controlled by a single continuous line run back to the cockpit. There’s lots of storage on deck, with large lockers forward of the saloon and in the forward section of the hulls supplementing the huge lockers in the cockpit.
Her spacious cockpit features twin helms under her hardtop making life easier for the skipper when maneuvering in tight quarters or docking, as well as offering protection from the weather.
The cockpit of the Seawind 1600 has plenty of seating and room to move and features an L shaped lounged and dining table under the hardtop, which will offer outdoor dining for up to 8 people.
The cockpit’s sliding door and wide windows access the saloon, and make an already large space singularly huge. The saloon features an eight person dining table, drop down television and built in surround sound. There is also a separate nav station with clear views through the windows.
The quality of the Seawind 1600’s joinery and gelcoat work throughout is incredible and feels very modern, with windows wrapping around for clear 360 degree views. Hatches in the roof and forward windows provide good cross ventilation. The large galley features generous counter space, under counter top 130 liter fridge, 90 liter freezer, large double stainless sink and three burner stove.
The spacious owner’s suite to starboard features queen bed and a bathroom with dedicated head and large walk in shower, while crew share two cabins on the port side, with the aft cabin convertible to double or twin beds, and a forward cabin featuring a king single. A single head is shared between the two.
